We can’t thank Dr. Elizabeth Constance and the staff at Heartland enough! We did IVF and are 29 weeks pregnant with a baby boy! The IVF process can be hard emotionally, physically and financially but they patiently answered all of our questions and made sure we were informed before every procedure.

What Are Your Options?

Lesbian couples and single women who are not in a relationship have many options to choose from when it comes to family building.

Sperm Donation

First, you will need to select a donor who can provide healthy sperm for your embryo. If you choose someone you already know, we can provide screening and processing to ensure that their sperm is healthy and viable. You can also choose an anonymous candidate from a trusted outside agency. Heartland Center for Reproduction works with agencies that can provide information about the candidate's ethnicity, education levels, and unique personality traits.

Egg Donation

If neither of the partners can donate their eggs due to health reasons, the couple can also choose egg donation. You can work with a known egg donor or our practice can connect you with a highly qualified anonymous candidate. You can also work with an outside agency to supply your egg donation. No matter which option you choose, the Heartland Center for Reproduction can provide the care needed by all parties involved.

Reciprocal IVF

Reciprocal IVF is a unique option for partners who both want to partake in the experience and contribute their genes to their child. During reciprocal IVF, one woman donates her egg while the other carries the embryo in her womb.

Surrogacy

If neither of the partners can carry the child due to infertility issues or health reasons, couples can also choose a gestational surrogate. Once the egg is donated by one of the partners, it is fertilized in our state-of-the-art laboratory. Finally, the embryo is implanted in the uterus of the gestational surrogate. Our Omaha, Nebraska, practice can connect you with a highly qualified, healthy surrogate to serve as the carrier for your child. Couples can also choose a known carrier.

Artificial or Intrauterine Insemination

Intrauterine insemination, or IUI, is a fairly straightforward option for lesbian couples to become pregnant without intercourse. The procedure is designed to promote egg fertilization and increase the likelihood of pregnancy. During the procedure, one of our fertility specialists will introduce concentrated semen directly into the uterus of the intended mother. Our team will help you track your menstrual cycle to place the sperm when you have the highest chance of becoming pregnant.

What to Expect during the Process

Although each family building plan is different depending on the couple's desires, here is what each couple can expect throughout the process:

What If You Are Facing Infertility?

Many couples face infertility. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "About ten in 100 women in the United States ages 15 to 44 have difficulty becoming pregnant or staying pregnant."

If you are facing infertility, our team in Omaha, Nebraska, can perform screening and imaging to determine the cause. In some cases, we discover that women are having trouble getting pregnant due to:

Depending on your diagnosis, we can provide treatment or alternative solutions to help you overcome infertility and grow your family.

How Much Does Family Building for Lesbian Couples Cost?

The cost of your family building plan will depend on several factors, including which procedure you choose, whether you need additional screenings or exams, and whether you choose to work with a surrogate

At Heartland Center for Reproduction, we want every same-sex couple who wants children to have the ability to reproduce, regardless of their sexual orientation, marital status, or finances. To make family building more affordable for intended mothers, we allow patients to finance their treatment through third-party lenders.

We loved the staff and facility! We are pregnant on our first IVF cycle after a fresh transfer. Unfortunately, we only had one embryo make it to day 5. We will be doing our second round with them as well!
